Meet Adaptive Athlete: Brian Breckenridge

Officer Brian Breckenridge, Stockton PD

DOB: 1971

DOI: October 2020

PATHOLOGY: C5/6 Spinal Cord Injury

Brian Breckenridge

Brian grew up in Modesto, CA, where he spent his childhood playing baseball, football, and soccer, drawn to the camaraderie of team sports. After a 27-year career with the Police Department, serving as a Lieutenant and working in various roles including Patrol, Training, and Program Management, Brian developed a cervical disc herniation during his decade as a Motor Enforcement Officer, spending long hours on a motorcycle.

His recovery has been a gradual process, navigating treatments, pain management, and the frustration of losing strength and mobility. Cycling became his outlet, allowing him to stay active without aggravating his injury, and he’s grown more committed to the sport over the past 18 months.

Through the Hyper program, Brian hopes to gain tools to train around his injury, break through mental barriers, and continue building strength while connecting with other adaptive athletes.
