Growing up in Flower Mound, Texas, Courtney spent her childhood dedicated to sports. Although she played soccer early on, her love for basketball grew in high school. After graduating in 2015, she continued on and played at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Since then, she’s gotten her undergraduate, Master’s degree in higher education, and had a full-time work position at her university.

In February 2020, Courtney chose to be proactive about the breast cancer that runs in her family and opted for breast reconstruction surgery. Shortly after, she started feeling unwell and was rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered a blood clot. In order to save her life, her leg was amputated above the knee. She spent 70 days in the hospital and has been in rehab relearning how to walk.

At ATF, she’s looking to continue on and perfect her gait as well as regain her active lifestyle. She wants to increase both stamina and strength as well as focus on healthy eating habits. Her next steps beyond ATF are to begin working again. Although she doesn’t know exactly what path to pursue, she’s excited to see what opportunities God has in store.
