Injury: Gun Shot Wounds, TBI, Blind Left Eye
Crystal grew up in El Paso Texas, where she was taught to help others and never give up no matter the circumstances. Her life took a turn at 17 when her mother passed away from breast cancer. After high school she began her career in criminal justice, 2 years later she moved to Dallas and became a police officer.
On April 24th, 2018 while working on patrol, Crystal and her partner responded to a call at a Home Depot where she was shot twice in the face. Crystal suffered a traumatic brain injury, leaving her blind in her left eye, and suffering from hearing loss due to the proximity of the gunshots. She also tragically lost her partner in the conflict.
Crystal’s long term goal is to learn to adapt to her new limitations both physically and mentally. To Crystal, the mental side is just as important in helping her come to terms with her new normal and accept the change. She enjoys working out, knitting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
