PATHOLOGY: C7 Spinal Cord Injury
Evie Hilburn grew up in West Monroe, Louisiana, where she stayed active through volleyball and a love for outdoor life. Whether she was at the lake or riding horses, she gravitated toward environments that kept her moving and connected to nature. Sports and activity were a consistent part of her identity, paired with a strong sense of independence and curiosity.
On April 9, 2022, Evie’s life changed following a UTV rollover accident that resulted in a C7 spinal cord injury. In the immediate aftermath, she had to relearn fundamental functions such as breathing, eating, sitting up, and daily self-care. The experience required her to essentially start over physically and mentally, adjusting to a completely new way of living.
Despite the intensity of her recovery, Evie has focused on the positive aspects that have emerged since her injury. She values the relationships she has built, the perspective she has gained, and even the companionship of her dog as part of her new chapter. Her experience has also led to deeper self-awareness and personal growth as she continues adapting to life after injury.
Through the ReDefine program, Evie is focused on pushing past self-imposed limits and building both physical and mental strength. She is determined to stop holding back, improve her performance, and achieve measurable goals - while learning to overcome procrastination and fully commit to her potential.
