PATHOLOGY: Above Knee Amputee

Kyle Stepp

Kyle grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he developed a passion for cycling at an early age and throughout his adolescence. At age 14 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, bone cancer, and underwent a limb salvage surgery which left him with steel implants for his femur, tibia, and knee. From 2008 on, Kyle lived with chronic pain and drop foot as a result of the surgery.

In 2020, Kyle was involved in a mountain biking accident that shattered all of his implants and required an above the knee amputation of his left leg. Since his amputation, Kyle has had the doors open to many more adaptive sports and now competes in para triathlons as well as skiing and rock climbing. Kyle currently races for the U.S. with World Triathlon. In 2023, he won the USA Para Triathlon PTS2 Men’s Division National Championship and Bronze Medal in the PTS2 Divisions at the World Triathlon Long Beach Para Cup.
