Meet Adaptive Athlete: Scott Ussing

Scott Ussing

DOB: 1981

PATHOLOGY: Below Knee Amputee

Scott Ussing

Scott grew up in Vale, Oregon. His favorite hobby was working on junker vehicles and participating in auto club. He also competed in FFA competitions, winning at the local, state, and national levels. When he was 15, Scott was driving a tractor when it went off the side of a bank, pinning his legs beneath the rear tire and fender. After more than 10 surgeries, Scott’s left leg was amputated below the knee.

Post-injury, Scott found judo and competed throughout high school and beyond. In 2017, he learned about Spartan Races and began training and participating in them. He wants his Hyper experience to give him the tools needed to become a more competitive athlete, as well as become more healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally.
