PATHOLOGY: Below Knee Amputee
Victor Rodriguez, known as Vic, was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Growing up, he immersed himself in strength exercises, football, softball, fishing, and camping - activities that fueled his competitive drive, built physical toughness, and created lasting memories of camaraderie and the outdoors.
After graduating from Holy Cross High School in San Antonio, Vic joined the Air Force on August 8, 1979, serving until December 31, 2002. He rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt, E-8), holding roles as First Sergeant, Commandant of Airman Leadership School, and primary specialty as Training Manager. His career focused on leadership development and training others in the Air Force.
In August 2024, while attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, Vic was involved in a motorcycle accident that resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Adaptation has progressed steadily but slowly, complicated by significant trauma and ongoing skin issues during recovery. The experience has brought physical adjustments and emotional challenges, including dealing with the mental impact of the sudden loss and trauma.
Today, Vic is channeling his energy into rebuilding. Physically, he is targeting muscle strengthening, weight loss, abdominal work, and improved diet to stay focused and happy. His broader goals include volunteer work, sharpening mental focus, RV traveling, and making the most of time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
