Meet Adaptive Athlete: Jason Terry

SGT Jason Terry

US Army, RET.

DOB: May 6th, 1977

DOI: November 2012

PATHOLOGY: Lumbar Spinal Cord Injury

Jason Terry 26 Wide

Jason’s childhood in Madill, OK included a lot of basketball. He loved every part of the game and specialized in three-pointers. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough room to have two incredible Jason Terry’s in the NBA, so he instead went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Sports and Exercise Science.

When he was 26 years old, Jason enlisted in the US Army and worked as a transportation specialist. During his 13-year career, he was deployed twice to Iraq and once to the UAE. The daily wear and tear took a toll on his back over the years, requiring him to have spinal surgery in September 2012 and leading to his discharge in 2013.

Since his service ended, Jason has never been able to trust his back. His fears center around over-exerting himself and worsening his physical state. His lack of activity has brought weight gain and loss of flexibility, but he is motivated to become healthier for both himself and his family.
