23 Martin Evans Headshot

Master Sergeant (Ret.) Martin Evans was raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He always enjoyed being outside and keeping active, graduating high school in 1996. His father was in the Army and Martin followed the same route to serve, enlisting in the Air Force after graduation. Flying to boot camp was the first time he had ever been on a plane.

Martin served 21 years in the Air Force as military police. During his service, he was in seven different stations and deployed six times - including three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. His role included security, vehicle and personnel inspections, and detainee operations. The daily wear and tear took a toll on his body, but Martin pushed through the pain for years until a doctor's visit revealed that both of his hips were fractured, requiring immediate surgery.  Both of Martin’s hips were operated on and doctors did their best to repair as much damage as they could.

Today, Martin is limited by the ongoing pain in his back and hips. His goal through the nine weeks at ATF is to increase his stamina and strength in order to better manage his pain levels. Mentally he is ready to push the limits and is looking forward to the camaraderie with his fellow veterans. Beyond ATF, Martin will continue to spend quality time with his family and pursue his passion for golfing.
