PATHOLOGY: Spinal Cord Injury

Ronnie Mondragon

Ronnie grew up in El Paso, Texas. As a young man, he played soccer, basketball, and baseball. After graduating high school, Ronnie enlisted in the ARMY and served as an IT Specialist. He was in a support role for the 5th Special Forces Group and deployed with Task Force Dagger after 9/11. Ronnie deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

During his service, Ronnie injured his back during a parachute jump but continued to serve despite his injury. Multiple jumps and six deployments later, his injury was exacerbated over and over. This resulted in bouts of depression, feelings of isolation, and continuous physical therapy.

Ronnie plans to use Hyper to begin training to compete in sports. He looks forward to being more active and striving toward a goal and knows that working out will help him have the best days possible. Ronnie wants to be a supportive figure for his family and sees staying healthy as the best way.
