Mariano Garmendia

Mariano Garmendia grew up in Legorreta, Spain, where he developed a love for soccer at an early age. Whether watching or playing, the sport became a constant in his life - fueling his competitive spirit and providing a sense of connection and enjoyment. From a young age, Mariano learned to navigate the world differently, building resilience and adaptability through everyday experiences.

Born with thalidomide-related disabilities, Mariano has spent his life finding creative ways to overcome challenges. Rather than viewing his condition as a limitation, he has embraced it as a different path - one that has shaped his perspective and drive. He went on to pursue architecture in college, becoming the first person with a disability to enroll in his program, a testament to his willingness to break barriers and challenge expectations.

Throughout his life, Mariano has relied on determination and self-belief to carve out his own path. His mindset has always centered on possibility - focusing on what he can do rather than what he cannot. That perspective continues to guide him as he looks for new ways to grow physically and mentally.

Through the ReDefine program, Mariano is seeking to build strength, improve independence, and develop greater discipline in his training. He is motivated to push his limits - running farther, jumping higher, and becoming more consistent in his efforts - while continuing to prove that his potential is defined only by the work he puts in.
