Bram Kohlhausen

Bram Kohlhausen grew up in Houston, Texas, playing golf, basketball, baseball and football, while spending his free time hiking and mountain biking. As a former Division I athlete, competition has always been a part of his life. Today, golf has become his sport of choice - a way to keep competing while continuing to redefine what athletics looks like for him.

In May 2023, Bram was involved in a helicopter accident at a ranch in Carta Valley, Texas. He was thrown approximately 70–80 feet and suffered devastating injuries, including shattered feet, multiple pelvic reconstructions, a fractured elbow and two broken wrists. He spent roughly six weeks in a medically induced coma before beginning the long process of learning to use a wheelchair, then forearm crutches and ultimately prosthetics.

Physically, Bram attacked his recovery head-on. Mentally, it has been a much harder battle. Losing both feet and going from a Division I athlete to learning an entirely new way of moving has led to periods of isolation and withdrawal. At the same time, the experience has brought him closer to God and helped him narrow his circle to the people who truly matter.

Now, Bram wants to focus on the mental side of recovery while building connections with other amputee and adaptive athletes. He wants to get back to a normal life, working, living independently, building a home in Fort Worth and eventually starting a family. Hyper is an opportunity to keep moving toward that life while finding a community that understands the road he is on.
