PATHOLOGY: Bilateral Below Knee Amputee

Callie Colwick

Callie grew up in New Braunfels, Texas and spent her childhood outdoors. In high school, she ran, swam, and played soccer, but during her junior soccer season, she had a bad hip injury that ended her soccer career. During her recovery, she met her husband. They got married in 2011 and had their daughter in 2015. Shortly after, Callie and her family moved to Dallas for her work as a creative director.

In December of 2016, Callie was three months pregnant when she was admitted to the hospital due to complications. In the hospital, Callie developed severe sepsis, causing her to lose her son and begin the fight for her life. After 1.5 years in the ICU/Rehab hospital and multiple organ failures, Callie miraculously lived, but ultimately lost both legs below the knee along with other severe complications.

Her road to recovery has been long and tough, but Callie is continually seeking to learn and grow throughout it. She enjoys competing with herself and wants to see how far she can push the limits in order to be an example for her daughter. Callie is hoping to get back into swimming and would love to start competing again. Her and her husband are also looking to expand their family through adoption.
