PATHOLOGY: Traumatic Brain Injury & Nerve Damage
Chris grew up in San Antonio, Texas and developed a love for baseball and golf as a young man. He grew up playing both sports and loved the challenge each provided him. He is currently working on a Mechanical Engineering degree. Chris served for 13 years in the Army as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, including combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
During a deployment in Iraq in December 2009, Chris was the rear gunner for his vehicle when the convoy was hit by an IED. The impact of the blast caused Chris to have a TBI, nerve damage, and compressed cervical discs in his spine. His left also wrist had to be reconstructed. The recovery process has presented many challenges for Chris, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Chris is looking forward to using his time at ATF to improve his health and overcome the challenges he faces. He wants to develop a solid exercise routine. Mentally, Chris wants to learn how to better manage his stress and start prioritizing his mental health.
