Chris Tarte

Chris Tarte grew up in San Antonio, Texas, with interests ranging from drawing and singing to JROTC. Today, he stays active through adaptive sports, including bobsled and skeleton, and is always looking for ways to challenge himself physically.

On October 29, 2011, Chris was serving as a 12B Combat Engineer in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, conducting route clearance operations when his vehicle struck an IED. The physical recovery has been only part of the journey. Working through the trauma of the past 15 years has often been more difficult than the physical challenges.

Chris discovered bobsled and skeleton through a friend he was training with in sitting volleyball. Since attending his first winter sports camp in 2016, he has continued looking for ways to push his body while staying healthy and injury-free.

At Hyper, Chris wants to better understand what his body is capable of and how to train for the long term. His goal isn't a specific finish line, it's to remain active, strong and physically capable for the rest of his life, rather than allowing himself to become sedentary.
