PATHOLOGY: Limb Salvage
Dana grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by the rhythm of the track. Her father coached an AAU team, and from ages 6 to 18, she competed in track and field, with the 100m hurdles as her favorite event. She also played basketball through high school and continued on the court during her time in the Marine Corps.
In 2002, while stationed in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Dana was struck by a vehicle, suffering a severe tib/fib fracture that led to multiple surgeries, an ankle fusion, and a free muscle flap procedure to save her leg. The recovery was isolating and emotionally heavy, leaving her feeling as though everything she’d worked for was taken from her.
Since discovering adaptive sports in 2017, Dana has been rebuilding her strength and exploring where she fits, leaning toward powerlifting or track and field, but staying open to wherever coaching may guide her. At ATF, she’s looking to sharpen her focus and understand what it takes to truly compete at the next level, with her eyes set on someday representing Team USA on the Paralympic or Invictus stage.
