Meet Adaptive Athlete: David Hochman

Dave is from Bridgewater, New Jersey. Growing up, he preferred unstructured individual activities such as surfing, fishing, snowboarding, and running. He served in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Assault Marine.

 

In 2023, while walking on the sidewalk in front of a Post Office, Dave was struck by an SUV, pinning him to the building wall. He underwent seven operations in an attempt to save his right leg, but ultimately had to have it amputated above the knee due to his injuries. Although he faced challenges such as chronic pain and depression after his amputation, Dave’s community rallied around him in support.

 

Dave wants to run the New Jersey Half Marathon and hike up Mount Washington in New Hampshire, proving that his limitations don’t define him. He also wants to begin a daily gratitude routine and engage with peers who have faced similar challenges.
