PATHOLOGY: Traumatic Brain Injury

Jarrett Hodnett

Jarrett grew up in Keller, Texas. He developed a love for sports and the outdoors early in life. From a young age, he played football and baseball, thriving in competitive environments and developing a strong sense of discipline and teamwork. When he wasn’t on the field, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He liked anything that kept him active and connected to nature. After high school, Jarrett went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Texas Tech University.

On January 11th, 2023, the night before starting his final semester of college, Jarrett sustained a traumatic brain injury from an accidental gunshot wound to the head. Given the severity of the injury, his recovery progress has been great so far, but Jarrett faces ongoing challenges. Physically, he’s lost the ability to participate in many of the sports and activities he once loved. Socially, he’s had to watch friends move into careers and new stages of life, while he focuses on rehabilitation. Mentally, he remains in a strong place, committed to pushing forward and reclaiming as much of his pre-injury life as possible.

One of Jarrett’s goals is to regain full use of his right hand, which remains his greatest physical obstacle. Mentally, he is focused on rebuilding his confidence and self-esteem, both of which took a hit after his injury. As an athlete, he feels driven to compete again. During ReDefine, he plans to embrace opportunities to push his limits and become the best version of himself, one day at a time.
