PATHOLOGY: Traumatic Brain Injury & Spinal Fusions
Lucas McClure was born and raised in Daytona, Florida where he spent as much time outdoors as possible. His time spent surfing, fishing, playing soccer, and baseball provided the foundation for challenging himself with things that bring him joy, which he continued to build upon throughout a successful career in the Special Forces.
After receiving a bachelor's degree, Lucas joined the United States Army in May of 2007 where he then went on to serve for 15 years. Through consistent hard work and determination, Lucas passed selection and became a part of a Special Forces unit where he served as an engineer, master breacher, and assaulter. With three combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Lucas sustained and pushed through a number of injuries from over pressure blasts to breaking his back twice. The second back injury and major TBI came from an incident during a high altitude low opening or HALO jump during which Lucas took a hard landing on the drop zone.
After sustaining these injuries, Lucas went through many surgeries and rigorous physical therapy in order to get back to his unit. He was medically retired in 2021 and has continued on with physical therapy and trying to maintain a social life post service.
Lucas applied to ATF because he wants to find purpose and passion again, post service. He wants to help shape his identity outside of the military and be the best father and husband possible for his family. He is determined to break away from the mentality that his injuries prevent him from living up to his full potential.
