DOB: May 8th, 1985
Injury: Bilateral Above Knee Amputee
Sport: Sit skier
In his mid 20’s, Matthew was shocked with a cancer diagnosis which led him down a path to opioid addiction. Then at the age of 30, Matthew became a double above knee amputee due to Compartment Syndrome in his legs. As a result, he was prescribed more opioids to deal with phantom pain, but after two and a half years of living in a fog, Matthew gave them all up. He found adaptive sports, got prosthetics, and gained a community around him.
He is now living life with passion and purpose, competing in triathlons, surf competitions, spartan races, and Para Alpine Skiing where he is an NAC athlete. His next goal is to be a podium finisher and qualify for the Paralympics in the three slalom events as a sit skier.
Matthew has never had any formal training outside of his sport and is looking forward to creating a game plan to get his mind, body, and spirit in the best shape to go after his Paralympic goals.
