Moses Matthews

Moses Matthews grew up competing in football and track and field, playing running back and middle linebacker while also running the 100 meters and competing in shot put. He loved being part of a team, but he also loved pushing himself to see what he could accomplish. That competitive mindset continued into his Army career, where he served as a Sergeant and 35N Signal Intelligence Analyst with the 75th Ranger Regiment. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2021, supporting operations from the desk side of the mission.

Moses’ journey since 2022 has been shaped by multiple sclerosis, which has progressively changed what his body is capable of. The disease has taken away his ability to run long distances and lift the heavy weights he once could. What has been just as difficult has been the mental and social impact. Moses describes feeling disconnected from his old life and struggling to relate to friends who knew him before his abilities changed.

At ReDefine, Moses wants to challenge the assumptions he has developed about what he can and cannot do. He wants to become active again, establish a consistent gym routine and, most importantly, regain confidence in himself. He doesn't have a specific weight he needs to lift or a distance he needs to run. For him, progress means simply showing up and moving again.

But the biggest goal may be mental. Moses wants to find the optimism he once had, to start dreaming again instead of always expecting the worst. ReDefine gives him a chance to test himself, rebuild his confidence and begin believing that there is still more ahead of him.
