Nelson grew up in Inglewood, California and then later moved to Killeen, Texas where he was quite the athlete, playing baseball, basketball, football, and running track. He attended Belton High School and then pursued a degree at Texas State University, graduating in 2014. Upon graduating college, Nelson moved just up the road to Austin, Texas.
On a Sunday in March of 2023, Nelson was involved in a car accident which he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle burst into flames with Nelson inside and as a result, he sustained a number of injuries. Despite attempts to salvage the limb, he ultimately made the decision to amputate his foot one year later.
Nelson hopes to learn how to move better on his prosthetic, hoping to progress to running and master his mobility during his time at ATF. He eventually hopes to compete at a high level within adaptive sports, with his sights set on making the Paralympics.
