Meet Adaptive Athlete: Nick Ferris

Nick grew up in Austin, Texas and was active growing up, playing football and pole vaulting. After high school, he attended the University of Texas where he got his bachelor's in Petroleum Engineering in 2017. 

 

During the summer of 2023, Nick went out to Lake Travis in Austin to celebrate the Fourth of July with some friends. While wrestling with a buddy, Nick lost his footing and fell from the top of the dock onto a boat down below. He was airlifted to the hospital where doctors then diagnosed him with a broken back at the T-level. 

 

After being released from the ICU, he was transported to a rehab hospital in Houston where he began his recovery process. He has done multiple stints with Baylor Scott & White and has seen great progress. Nick hopes to continue this recovery journey during his time at ATF and wants to become closer with the SCI community.
