PATHOLOGY: Spinal Cord Injury
Hailing from Eudora, Kansas, Rhonda enjoyed riding bikes, rollerblading, and playing basketball growing up. She was also a cheerleader and is a lifelong gardener. Just before Christmas her Junior year of high school, Rhonda was a passenger in a car accident. The vehicle flipped and she was thrown through a window, landing on a concrete culvert.
Rhonda’s spine was shattered, leaving her with a spinal cord injury along with a laundry list of other injuries. Despite a long and grueling recovery process, she was able to graduate high school on time and go on to live an independent life, earning a college degree and becoming a mother.
Rhonda wants to continue pushing herself as a competitor in adaptive sports, specifically track and field. She also wants to go beyond her comfort zone mentally, becoming more involved in social groups and participating in programs like Hyper.
