Shawntina Gibson

Shawntina Gibson grew up moving frequently as a military child, experiencing life across many places and adapting quickly to new environments. While she wasn’t deeply involved in organized activities growing up, those early years helped shape her resilience and independence - qualities that would later define her journey.

Shawntina went on to serve in both the U.S. Navy and the Army National Guard, working as a Corpsman and later as a 92F. During and after her service, her life took an unexpected turn when she began losing her vision - first in one eye, and then the other. What was initially misdiagnosed as a minor condition was later understood to be part of a larger autoimmune disorder, ultimately leading to complete blindness. The experience was deeply traumatic, and for a time, difficult to fully process.

In the years since, Shawntina has rebuilt her life through adaptive sports and community. Activities like rock climbing, cycling, kayaking, and hiking became powerful outlets - giving her purpose, focus, and a renewed sense of identity. Through these experiences, she not only strengthened herself physically and mentally, but also became a leader within the veteran community, serving as a chapter president and creating opportunities for others to stay active and connected.

Through the ReDefine program, Shawntina is looking to elevate her training - building strength, endurance, and consistency while continuing to refine her mental focus. She is driven not only by personal growth, but by a desire to lead and inspire others, sharing the tools and mindset that have helped her redefine what is possible.
