PATHOLOGY: T6 Spinal Cord Injury

Shelby Estocado

Shelby Estocado was born and raised in Nevada where she developed an affinity for adventure sports like snowboarding from an early age. Growing up around the snow, she excelled quickly and was soon taking bigger risks and sending challenging jumps.

During a snowboarding trip, Shelby was doing her thing going down some runs and decided to take a big jump, something she had done many times before. She lost control of her body in the air and landed on her back, breaking her spine and sternum, paralyzing her instantly.

After her injury, Shelby found the High Fives Foundation, a group founded by ATF Alum Roy Tuscany that supports athletes injured in adventure sports. Through High Fives, Shelby has been able to participate in adaptive skiing and recently became part of the National Ability Center high performance ski race team in Park City.

Shelby is training to make the 2026 US Paralympic Alpine Ski Team and hopes to use her time here at ATF to kick off her training in amazing fashion, learning new ways to use her body and gain strength.
