PATHOLOGY: T12 Spinal Cord Injury
Taylor Roberts grew up in Powhatan, Virginia, playing softball, volleyball and soccer and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Sports and the outdoors taught her teamwork, patience, resilience and the value of constantly learning and improving. Today, she has brought that same mindset into adaptive athletics, competing in bobsled.
In 2015, Taylor was a college sophomore when another driver ran a stop sign and struck her vehicle, sending it into a telephone pole. The crash caused significant internal injuries and a spinal cord injury. For more than three years, her singular focus was learning to walk again. She accomplished many things doctors told her she wouldn't, but eventually realized she had been neglecting the mental and emotional work of adapting to her new life.
Once Taylor began embracing what had happened and reconnecting with the parts of life that brought her joy, everything changed. Her SCI still presents challenges, but she has come to see that it has given her as much as it has taken.
Taylor discovered bobsled at a talent identification camp in 2025 and is now focused on becoming a better athlete. Through Hyper, she wants to build mental toughness, learn to reframe failure and push beyond the limits she has placed on herself. Long term, she wants to develop a smarter training plan, build a daily recovery and mindfulness practice, and approach her sport from a stronger, more complete foundation.
