Injury: Left Below Knee Amputee

Therese Meeks Headshot

From Wisconsin, Therese enjoys gardening, going on walks with her rescue dogs, and adventuring through life. Her adventurous lifestyle was put on hold on February 7th, 1992 when Therese was in a terrible car accident where her left ankle was smashed between the clutch and tire. She tried to find a doctor who would fix her ankle rather than perform an amputation and succeeded in doing so. However, after 24 years of ankle replacements and foot reconstructions, Therese decided to have the amputation done and became a below-knee amputee.

Adventure after all those years looks a little different for Therese. After lots of life changes due to her accident, she’s been less afraid to try new things like parasailing, water skiing, snow skiing, rock climbing, curling, flyboarding, golfing, wake surfing, sled hockey, and climbing 105 floors to reach the Skydeck of the Willis Tower by herself. Now she knows that she’s capable of anything.
In ATF, Therese has found a new family where there’s no negativity and no one putting her down and telling her she can’t do anything she dreams of. Her goal for these 9 weeks is to lose the weight she gained while on bedrest from the most recent ankle reconstruction and to share her confidence with everyone around her.

Therese says she is living and loving her second chance at life and no one will stop her now!
