PATHOLOGY: Below Knee Amputee
Tristin “Tommy” Thomas grew up in four different states and developed a love for knowledge, reading, and challenging himself in physical activities like biking, hacky sack, and running. He also picked up playing Dungeons and Dragons. Tommy enlisted in the Oregon National Guard as an Infantryman at the age of 17.
In September 2021, while activated on state emergency orders, Tommy was riding home on his motorcycle when he hydroplaned. The accident ruptured some of his organs and broke several of his bones, including a high break on his femur. After a few fasciotomies and surgeries, Tommy decided that amputation would be a better route to the life he wanted to live. In April 2024, his right leg was amputated below the knee.
Tommy plans to continue progressing physically to compete in the Adaptive CrossFit Games. Mentally, he wants to work on his ability to be still and sit quietly with himself. He wants to be able to look back on his life and know he tried his best at every turn to achieve the goals he set for himself.
