Ty Coleman

Ty Coleman grew up in Bellevue, Nebraska as an Air Force brat. His childhood was spent doing many outdoor activities and participating in different sports. He graduated high school in 2004 and went on to pursue higher education where he competed athletically.

After that, he moved to Texas and started a carpet cleaning company and also worked in residential maintenance. As an adult, Ty was diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder. Among the many good days, Ty has fought through some tough ones. On November 10th, 2021, while in a depressive state, Ty attempted suicide. This resulted in a spinal fusion, tailbone replacement, reconstruction of his left arm and leg, and amputation of his right leg.

His recovery process hasn’t been easy, but he has had an awesome support system, including his 10 year old daughter who motivates him to get better. He has also worked equally as hard with a therapist to see a better version of himself.

Ty is excited to use his story to bring awareness to mental health and hopes the ReDefine program will refine not only his physical, but help strengthen his mind and share his story. On top of that, Ty is currently learning how to walk on his prosthetic and is looking forward to the day he is running again.
