Tyler Moss

Officer Tyler Moss, Kansas City PD, was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois. Growing up, he was very involved in both church and sports, his favorites being soccer, baseball, basketball, and rugby. Tyler graduated high school in 2012 and went off to college, graduating with his business degree.

Tyler joined the Kansas City Police Department in 2018. On July 2nd, 2020, while on duty, Tyler was shot in the head while responding to a man waving a gun. He was only given a 1% chance to survive. The bullet entered by his right eye and went to the back of his skull. Many fragments are still in his head. As a result of the trauma, Tyler’s left side has been severely impacted and he’s spent the past two years taking daily steps toward recovery.

Throughout his life, his faith has been at the forefront and this incident has only allowed it to grow. Although he is already making positive strides, Tyler is focused on continually improving the overall function of his left side, especially fine motor control in his left hand and left leg. He is already working full-time again with the police academy and looks forward to progressing in his role at the police department.
